The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival attracts over 300,000 visitors each year. As an LGBTQI pride parade, it has been lighting up Sydney with colour since the 1970’s and has gained fame across the globe. The Mardi Gras is a party not to be missed.
Sydney Royal Easter Show
A family favourite for almost 200 years, the Royal Easter Show is where the city meets the country. Featuring agricultural competitions, animal petting enclosures, sports such as wood chopping, rides, show bags and tonnes more, kids and the the young at heart will have a day to remember.
Sydney Comedy Festival
There’s not much that beats a good belly-laugh, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ROFL with over 200 shows in venues across the city, featuring up and coming talent as well as comedians you know and love.

Lighting up the Sydney CBD with colour and music, installations of projected light turn buildings into interactive works of art. A truly stunning way to experience the landmarks of Sydney including the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and many more.
Sydney Film Festival
Attracting international and local movie makers, the Sydney Film Festival is a cultural delight. The main events take place at the State Theatre, though cinemas across the city also take part. There is a yearly competition to celebrate the most cutting-edge and audacious films, along with other awards that patrons can place votes for.
An annual fun run held since 1971, this event is loved by runners Australia-wide. A 14km race through the streets of Sydney, the course starts near Hyde Park, continues through Kings Cross and Rose Bay and then up the formidable ‘Heartbreak Hill’ before unveiling ocean views and a finish line by Bondi Beach. Australian legend Steve Monagetti currently holds the race record with 40:01:00 set way back in 1991.
Sydney Running Festival
Founded as a homage to the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the Sydney Running Festival features a number of events which make it suitable for the entire family and all fitness levels. The Marathon, following the course that featured in the Olympics, is also joined by a Half Marathon, 10km ‘Bridge Run’ and a 3.5km ‘Family Fun Run’. The event, which sees over 30,000 participants every year from over 66 countries, provides spectacular views of Sydney and exclusive access to the bridge without traffic!
Good Food Month
Now in operation for over 20 years, Sydney’s Good Food Month features a long list of events to delight your taste buds each October. Perhaps most notably, the Night Noodle Markets at Hyde Park are a popular attraction, offering hawker style food from some of Sydney’s best Asian inspired restaurants.
Sculpture by the Sea
Each year over 500,000 visitors make the trip to Bondi to view over 100 sculptures on the coastal walk from Bronte to Tamarama beach. Now the largest annual sculpture exhibition anywhere in the world and offered completely free to the public, this is a must-see.
Carols in The Domain
This famous Christmas concert is held in The Domain Gardens each December. It always features many guest performers and is telecast around the country.
